LEARNING BLOCK – Attacking at Speed | FOCUS – Attacking in parity
TECHNICAL CHALLENGE – Can I be comfortable in goal scoring opportunities? | PHYSICAL CHALLENGE – Can I lose my marker with quick movements?
WHY? – TECHNICAL | When attacking in a 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or even a 4v4, the outcome we strive for is a chance to score. The choices we make when attacking should lead us to a goal-scoring opportunity via individual play or combinations with team mates. The decision-making and speed of thought during this process is important for learning, the decisions need to be the right ones and the speed needs to be quick – if the decisions are wrong then possession is lost, if speed is slow then possession is lost. These key fundamentals when attacking comes from players calmness on the ball to not rush their choice too quickly and to not make the incorrect choice when put under pressure.
WHY? – PHYSICAL | Similar to our 2v2 attacking week – the challenge for our players was to lose their marker with quick movements but the main difference in this session was the number of attacking players and how they impacted your movement. Your team mates movements in the attacking third will decide what your movement will be, it would be ineffective to make the same run in the same space as you’ll be easy to mark so we challenged our players to look at where their team mates were before making their own movement so it’s different.
